Our mission is to honor our dear friend, Shay Hirsch, and the strength, courage, heart & bravery she had during her 11 year battle with cancer. This event was created in her memory.
Onward Shay! Boise Marathon brings together runners from all over the nation. This Boise-based 5K, 10K, half and full marathon uses themes from Shay’s favorite book, the Wizard of Oz, incorporating themes of courage, heart, and bravery, also things Shay possessed during her battle with cancer.
As a 501c3 non-profit organization, 100% of proceeds are donated. The recipients are many of Shay's favorite local charities. We also added one of our own – The Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation. We want to do our part in finding a cure for cancer so that people like Shay have a better chance of survival.
